چکیده

Abstract Lignocellulosic biomass wastes are abundant resources that usually valorized for methane-rich biogas via anaerobic digestion. Conversion of lignocellulose into volatile fatty acids (VFA) rather than is attracting attention due to the higher value-added products come with VFA utilization. This review consolidated latest studies associated characteristics lignocellulosic biomass, effects process parameters during acidogenic fermentation, and intensification strategies accumulate more VFA. The differences between digestion technology fermentation were discussed. Performance-enhancing surveyed included (1) alkaline fermentation; (2) co-digestion high solid-state (3) pretreatments; (4) use loading rate short retention time; (5) integration electrochemical technology, (6) adoption membrane bioreactors. recommended operations include: mesophilic temperature (thermophilic fermentation), C/N ratio (20–40), OLR (< 12 g solids (VS)/(L·d)), maximum HRT (8–12 days), or electrodialysis recovery. Lastly, perspectives put place based on critical analysis status production.

Volatile Fatty Acids Production by Anaerobic Fermentation of Urban Rganic Wastes

During six months of experimentation, a plug-flow system without recirculation was employed to study the volatile fatty acids (VFA) production by means of anaerobic fermentation of urban organic wastes. Results showed an important VFA production at mesophilic range of temperature (37°C). Particulary, VFA concentration in the outlet sludge went from 11.8 g/L at 2 days of retention time up to 23....

Acidogenic Fermentation Towards Valorisation of Organic Waste Streams into Volatile Fatty Acids

Anaerobic digestion (AD) has been applied over the years for the treatment of a wide variety of organic streams. The advantages of this process over other biological treatments relate mainly to the low cost of bioreactors operation, when compared to aerobic processes, since AD-based treatments offer a cost-effective solution for the treatment of high-strength organic wastes, through economic re...

Novel insight into the relationship between organic substrate composition and volatile fatty acids distribution in acidogenic co-fermentation

BACKGROUND Co-fermentation is an attractive technology for improving volatile fatty acids (VFAs) production by treatment of solid organic wastes. However, it remains unclear how the composition of different organic matters in solid waste influences the VFAs distribution, microbial community structure, and metabolic pathway during acidogenic co-fermentation. In this study, different organic wast...

Optimization of simultaneous saccharification and fermentation for the production of ethanol from lignocellulosic biomass.

Simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) of alkaline hydrogen peroxide pretreated Antigonum leptopus (Linn) leaves to ethanol was optimized using cellulase from Trichoderma reesei QM-9414 (Celluclast from Novo) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae NRRL-Y-132 cells. Response surface methodology (RSM) and a three-level four-variable design were employed to evaluate the effects of SSF process ...
